Bar coding only works with Enterprise Solutions with an Advanced Inventory subscription. Bar coding is not available in QuickBooks Pro or QuickBooks Premier.
To turn on bar coding, go to
Edit > Preferences > Items & Inventory > Company Preferences and click on the Advanced Inventory Settings button as shown below.
Click on the Barcodes tab as shown below.
Click on Enable Bar Code Scanning as shown below. There is also a link on this page that shows you how this works as well.
Open the Barcode Wizard as shown below.
In this case we will assume the you currently do not track barcodes in QuickBooks. This is the default setting.
After clicking Next we'll assume you only want to create barcodes for Inventory Items. So you merely check the appropriate box.
Click Finish and QuickBooks will create the barcodes for you.
Now if you go to your Item List you can see that QuickBooks has created barcodes for the Inventory Items you selected earlier.
You can also import barcodes if you choose by going to the
Item List > Click on the Item drop-down list > Click on Add/Edit Multiple Items
That will bring you to a spreadsheet type grid as show below. You can edit the Barcode field as you desire.
There are multiple ways to print the barcode labels so we'll show you one example. Click
File > Print Forms > Labels
Choose the Item Barcodes Radio Button and in this case we will select All Inventory Items from the drop down menu.
Hopefully this information has been helpful in learning about the Barcode feature with the Advanced Inventory Module and Enterprise Solutions.
